La Maison de l'Artemisia invited to the Social Entrepreneurship Days in Ouagadougou

The 2nd edition of the Social Entrepreneurship Days organized by La Fabrique Burkina Faso brought together social entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds in Ouagadougou from 7 – 9 June 2023.

Darling Guidigan, manager of the Artemisia House in Bohicon, Benin, and representative of La Maison de l’Artemisia France, participated in the discussion panel “Alternative Care” to explain the social impact of Artemisia in the fight against malaria.

La Fabrique is West Africa’s leading social enterprise incubator. Since 2014, they have been accompanying high-potential social entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso and the sub-region, in order to co-build sustainable, high-impact businesses. Convinced that social entrepreneurship is an effective path to growth and development, La Fabrique’s mission is indeed to identify project leaders and work with them to develop their projects and ambitions.

It was a real opportunity to present the vision, missions and activities of the Maison de l’Artemisia network in Burkina Faso and elsewhere in Africa.

In Burkina Faso, 7 Artemisia Houses (Ouahigouya, Thyou, Banfora, BoboDioulasso, Koudougou, Roumtenga and Boromo) have joined forces to form a national House of Artemisia.

The 3 panellists were:

Dr. Sylvain OUEDRAOGO (Burkina Faso), geriatrician and medical practitioner

Darling GUIDIGAN (Bénin), Manager of Bohicon Artemisia House

Dr. Virginie DAKUYO (Burkina Faso), Production Manager, Laboratoires Phytofla.

A different way of treating malaria (an endemic parasitic disease in Africa) means working harder on clinical studies to learn more about the plant, spreading this knowledge throughout the network, right down to the last hamlet in Africa and other malaria-endemic countries, and making quality seeds available so that all people at risk of malaria have easy access to Artemisia, a local solution that’s inexpensive, has no side effects and is accessible to as many people as possible
